CATARACT

Cataract is a pathology that consists in the opacification of the lens that we have inside the eye, called crystalline lens . This opacification makes it impossible to focus images, causing them to blur.
Cataracts often also modify the curvature of the crystalline lens, modifying any refractive defects of the eye (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism).
Cataract surgery with modern minimally invasive techniques consists of removing the opaque crystalline lens and replacing it with a transparent artificial intraocular lens . The procedure lasts a few minutes . Anesthesia is generally administered via eye drops, only in the most complex cases can a small injection be performed near the eye.
The intraocular lenses that are used, chosen on the basis of the specific characteristics of each eye, can have a single focus ("monofocal") or allow simultaneous vision at multiple distances, near, intermediate and far (" multifocal ").
Lens selection requires understanding the needs and expectations of each person, then choosing the most suitable and personalized lens among the many available on the market today.
The surgical interventions are performed at the headquarters of the Istituto Auxologico Italiano "Capitanio" in Via Mercalli 28 - 20122 Milan
